Fred Henson
Private Fred Henson, 25, of Barbourville, Knox County was killed on 8 December 1944 during combat operations with his unit, Company C, 149th Infantry on Leyte while on federal active duty.
Henson was born was born 8 June 1919, in Barbourville and enlisted with the Kentucky National Guard on 5 August 1940, at the time listing his civilian occupation as farmer. He was inducted into federal service 18 January 1941, with his unit.
Henson is buried at the Mayhew Cemetery, Barbourville, Kentucky.
No documentation has been found to detail the circumstances his death. However it would seem likely that he was killed in the vicinity of San Pablo or Buri airstrips on Leyte.
