Charles Henry “Chuck” Spice

Staff Sergeant Charles Henry “Chuck” Spice was born on May 4, 1977, in Carlisle, Nicholas County, Kentucky, to Reverend Charles “Chuck” and Marlene Kay Finchem Spice. He had four sisters: Catie (John) Durst of Pennsylvania, Amy (Rick) Townsley of Barbourville, Kentucky,  Sarah (Matthew) Schwerin of Florida, and Audie (Craig) Farmington of Indiana.  After completing high school, Chuck enlisted in the military and later served on active duty in the Horn of Africa in 2012. At the time of his passing, he held the rank of Staff Sergeant and was serving as an Active Guard Reserve member with the Kentucky National Guard’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 2-138th Field Artillery.  He was married to Joy Wilbanks Spice, and together they had two daughters, Nia and Lara, and a son, Charlie.  On September 4, 2017, at the age of 40, Chuck died suddenly of a service-connected condition. He was laid to rest with full military honors at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Jessamine County, Kentucky, in Section O, Site 107.
