Major Latonia Rene Trowell was born on June 14, 1966, in Hardin County, Kentucky, to Charles V. and Sandra J. Robinson Trowell. She grew up in a close-knit family, sharing her childhood with two sisters and two brothers. Latonia graduated from Fern Creek High School in 1983, where she laid the foundation for her future endeavors.

Latonia enlisted in the military on November 20, 1986, embarking on a commendable 29-year career in the Kentucky Air National Guard. Throughout her service, she demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership, ultimately achieving the rank of Major with the 123rd Airlift Wing. As testament to her leadership and experience she served with distinction at the Air Directorate of the National Guard Bureau, where she continued to serve until her death.

Though Latonia was single and had no dependents, she was surrounded by a loving network of family and friends who supported her throughout her life. She was active in her community and a member of Watson Memorial Baptist Church, where she found strength and fellowship.

Tragically, Latonia's life was cut short when she passed away from service-connected cancer on December 16, 2015, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, at the age of 49. Her passing left a significant void in the lives of her loved ones and the military community.

Latonia is remembered for her unwavering commitment to her military service and her compassionate spirit. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sandra; her grandmother, Lillie Mae Robinson; and her grandfather, Franklin Robinson. She is survived by her father, Charles V. Trowell; her stepmother, Barbra Trowell; her devoted companion, Ronnie Clayton; and her siblings, Courtenany, Troy, Sean, and Whitney Trowell. Additionally, she leaves behind eight nieces, seven nephews, and a host of relatives and friends who cherished her memory.

Her funeral service was held at Watson Memorial Baptist Church, followed by burial at Louisville Cemetery, where she was laid to rest with honor. In recognition of her service, Latonia's family received the Kentucky State Line of Duty Death Benefit, affirming her contributions and service to the Kentucky Air National Guard and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Major Latonia Trowell's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, as she is remembered not only for her service to her country but also for the love and kindness she shared with everyone around her. Her dedication and spirit continue to inspire those who carry on her memory.
